Taste Of The Hawaiian Range Event

I had the chance to attend one of the most awesome event ever! I was able to attend the 20th Annual Taste Of The Hawaiian Range this past Friday. As a Culinary Arts student I had the privilege work this event.

I worked with the wonderful chefs and general manager from Rays On The Bay located in the Kona Hawaii Sheraton Hotel.

Each restaurant was assigned a meat (our school for Cow Tongue and Rays On The Bay got Beef Chuck Roll) Rays On The Bay made Braised Beef Perogies with pickled beets and a homemade Freshcrem sauce. Not only was it delicious BUT it was beautiful too.

The guys were so much fun and awesome to work with.

For that reason alone (and the fact the food was delicious) I totally recommend a visit there (I am seriously thinking about a celebration night for husbands birthday Oct 25/our anniversary Nov 19/My birthday Nov 21 weekend at the Sheraton and Dinner at Rays On The Bay VERY soon) Interested in your own visit there? OK…Back to the event…There was booths from all over Hawaii.

There was 31 booths featuring meats and there was another 39 or 40 featuring other sustainable products from Hawaii. They had a scavenger hut with several winners that got prizes. Each booth had a sample of something.. The tickets for this event costed

$45.00 PreOrder

$ 60.00 at the door

Then for another $10.00 you got to attend a Beef 101 Class where Chef Roy Yomaguchi prepared for us in a demonstration

Beef Oxtail in a Curry and coconut Milk Sauce

And then after that he also made for us:

Beef Tenderloin with a crunchy slaw Salad with his special vinaigrette and these tiny little Japanese Rice cracker balls.

All of which we got to sample as well. By the time the event ended, most of us all was to full even to move. The money that you pay for the ticket is WELL worth the quantity AND quality of everything that I tried!

This is an event I plan to attend EVERY year! It was an amazing experience. I get to work it one more time next yr as a student and then after that I can work the schools booth as alumni students! I am excited for next years event..only 360 days left to go!!
